Focus on the future
In 1727, Edward Scarlett changed the course of optical history. By inventing the first modern spectacle frame with hinged temples, he liberated his patients from precarious nose-bridged lenses and gave birth to an entirely new industry. His invention was not just a triumph of function; it was an expression of ingenuity, comfort, and style.

That spirit of innovation runs through everything we do at Ed Scarlett. Nearly three centuries later, we remain dedicated to the principle that eyewear must combine clarity of vision with clarity of design. Our frames are handmade in London, using methods that preserve the dignity of traditional craft while embracing modern technology.

To this heritage we add the expertise of two pioneers who followed in Scarlett’s footsteps:
Mazzucchelli - Est.1849
For over 175 years, Mazzucchelli has produced the world’s finest acetate. Today we employ their revolutionary M49 bio-based material, a biodegradable acetate that retains the lustre and strength of tradition while moving towards a more sustainable future.

Mazzucchelli Bio-Acetate
Seiko - Est.1881
From its origins in Japan, Seiko has become synonymous with precision and innovation. Through the Seiko Vision Xperience, we employ digital consultation technology that allows clients to visualise lens designs and coatings with remarkable clarity.

Seiko Vision Xperience
This union of past and present defines our legacy. From Edward Scarlett’s workshop in Georgian London and Mazzucchelli’s mills in 19th-century Italy, to Seiko’s innovations in Meiji-era Japan, we draw upon centuries of invention to bring a sharp focus to the future of eyewear.
